I am apprehensive about the effectiveness of the Chicago board of health in
protecting and promoting the public health in my jurisdiction. To uplift my
concerns, and perhaps the concerns of other Chicago residents, I suggest
making two changes to make the Chicago local board of health more
effective: better representation on the local board of health of the community
it serves and broaden the specialties and knowledge of the.
As mentioned above, there needs to be a more diverse group of individuals
participating in the board of health in order for there to be a better
representation of the community it serves. The current member make up of
the local board health primarily consists of older White males. According to
the 2010 U.S Census Bureau, Chicago’s population is over 2.6 million
people with 29% of the population under 18 years old, 45% are White, and
