Summary
High blood pressure can be known as hypertension or sometimes is called arterial
hypertension. It is a chronic health disorder where the blood pressure in the arteries is elevated
above normal levels. You can measure blood pressure by readings from systolic and diastolic.
Systolic is when the heart muscle is contracting and diastole is when the heart muscle is relaxed
between beats. Normal blood pressure readings at rest for systole are between 100-140mmHg,
which is the number you see at the top. Normal blood pressure readings at rest for diastole are
between 60-90mmHg, which is the number that you see at the bottom. If your blood pressure is
at or above 140/90mmHg then high blood pressure is said to be present and action needs to be
taken care then.
