Case Study- Major Depressive Disorder
Elizabeth Wurtzel is a woman who is suffering from Major Depressive Disorder
as referred to in the DSM-5. She describes her experience with depression. One thing she would
like everyone to know and thoroughly understand that you don’t wake up one day and you are
suddenly depressed. Depression is a slow process that you do not even quite realize what is
happening Wurtzel describes it as a “cancer.” Wurtzel had shown a variety of symptoms of the
disorder. She had 5 of 9 symptoms present nearly every day. She was depressed and irritable.
Wurtzel felt as if depression is what defined her. She was depression and without that she really
