Classical Conditioning : Hockey and Riley
The fact that Riley was constantly skating with her family and playing hockey together when she was
younger made her conditioned by her family, which she took as an example, and loved hockey from
the first moment she felt that she was successful in this field. All the hobbies and habits of Riley, who
is at a very young age, come from her family because they directly affect the activities she likes, as
her family decides the activities to do. It is easier for us to adapt and learn when we are with the
people we love and are involved in activities that we feel good doing.
Observational Learning
Riley’s family is a family that tries to be together and make each other happy under all circumstances.
They enjoy cheering each other up and spending time together. Therefore, there is an intense
emotional bond between them and their family structure is strong. Especially during the difficult
times they spend together, her mother’s spending time with Riley to cheer her up, trying to distract
her, and communicating with her in a calm and loving language to keep Riley happy serve as a model
for Riley. Riley’s upbringing as a perpetually happy child is due to her family’s perpetual happy times
with her. Therefore, Riley learns from her family to stay calm and try to be happy even in bad times.
Classical Conditioning : between dog and pizza
In the last scene, when the man carrying the pizza passes by the dog, he runs after the man for the
pizza, assuming that the pizza tastes good after smelling it and thinking it is good, is an example of
conditional learning. Since the dog has eaten a pizza that smells and tastes good before, it
automatically assumes that it tastes good when it smells good.
