I am going to start my Journal off with a summary of the TED talk summary, and also a quick
apology on the LENGTH of this journal entry- I know it is pretty LONG.
The whole idea behind this speech was that learning as a whole starts not as soon as
you are born but inside the womb. This huge idea is that we are greatly affected by the 9
months that are inside our mommy’s tummy, and that babies are not “clean slates” when they
are born. This idea goes further in to say that we have learned a great deal to help us prepare
for the world around us and that a huge part of this learning stems from the infant’s mother. The
infant already knows their mothers voice and prefers to hear it over anyone else’s. Infants inside
the womb can learn not only their mothers voice but also jingles (like the opening song to a
soup opera or to a movie) and passages if they were played a lot or read out loud enough. The
infant also learns smells and tastes while inside the belly, this is due to the fact that at 7 months
gustation, the baby’s olfactory and taste buds are fully operational. There were many
experiments that showed that a newborn baby/child preferred tastes that were repeatedly eaten
by the mother during pregnancy. This idea even further states that a mother’s daily life is
constantly shared with the baby, down to the air that is breathed, the food that is ate, the
chemicals that the mother comes into contact during pregnancy, and even emotions such as
stress and happiness are shared with the unborn baby. These things prepare the baby for daily
life OUTSIDE the womb and helps the baby learn about the type of environment that it can
expect to encounter. All of these things are things that a baby learns before he or she is even
born which goes to prove that maybe this idea is more fact than fiction.

The major perspective theory that I chose is the behavioral theory. This theory basically
