marriage should or should not be allowed according to the Supreme Court’s ruling. Gay
marriage is typically prohibited by major Judeo-Christian religions and many
conservatives therefore believe that it should not be allowed. On the other hand, liberals
claim that it is important to allow gay marriage to promote human rights. This topic is
related to chapter 1 because democracy represents the will of the majority. In this case, the
Supreme Court voted for the passage of gay marriage 5-4, which allowed this decision to
come to pass. Current news questions the ability of citizens to exercise their rights,
whether they are gay or whether they are opposed to gay marriage.
