Subject: Procedures for Deescalating Behaviors
The following memo is created to explain the proper procedures that need to be followed by
all staff in the event of dealing with a difficult behavior. It is important to follow this
procedure closely to ensure the safety of our residents and our staff. It is critical that all staff
are aware of the situation and the procedures the must be followed to assist everyone in
working together to have the desired outcome.
All Staff
All staff must use their stop and watch tool to assist them with identifying an agitated or
potentially harmful resident. Use your knowledge of the resident’s baseline behaviors to
assess the level of harmful intent and agitation. If agitation is minimal talk with the resident
and redirect per protocol. This may be as far as you will need to decrease the agitation.
