Explain how the teams progress through the stages of team development.
There are five steps through the stages of team development:
1. Forming: The first stage of team development is forming. Forming is
orientating. At the beginning, most team members are pretty excited about
starting something new. Also, they are getting to know the other team members
for the first time. The leader is responsible for the facilities and social
interchanges. As the group starts to familiarize in this stage, it will not be very
productive, but this stages is not really focused on productivity.
2. Storming: Being part of team is like being in a relationship. First you think
everything is perfect, but than you will realize that not everything is working out
perfectly. Conflicts and disagreements will happen in the stage of storming. The
leader has to encourage participation and point out, that disagreement between
a group of people is something normal.
3. Norming: In this stage order and cohesion will establish. Team members will
start to notice and appreciate their team members’ strengths. The group starts
to settle into a groove. The leaders role is to help clarifying each team members
signifies the completion. The team disbands, some of the members will
experience a feeling of a loss due to the fact that the experience is now over.
