As a practicing RN a question may arise rather to purchase your own professional
liability insurance or if your employer’s liability insurance was enough. I was informed in my
associates RN program that it is very necessary to have your own insurance but when I began
working as an RN no other nurse seemed to have their own liability insurance policy. This topic
will be very informative for me to decide rather I will purchase a policy or not, and I am very
interested to see how many of my peers also have policies.
Some issues with only having insurance through your employer is that they have their
own interest at heart. If you as a practicing nurse do not follow the scope of your employment
exactly than your employer can choose not to represent you at all and you may be left with no
liability insurance (Pohlman, 2015). Another con of employer only insurance is that if multiple
