MODULE DESCRIPTION
The unit provides an understanding of the concepts and competencies required when employed as a
professional event coordinator. This subject analyses the essential services that provide the necessary
infrastructure for the event and examines the creative as well as the practical aspects of coordinating a
meeting/event.
Additionally, the course has been designed to provide students with the opportunity to get hands on
experience through the actual producing and project managing of a student event, which will also
serves as part of the unit’s assessment.
Prerequisites: Foundation for Business Analytics
MODULE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
Analyse in detail the anatomy of an event to establish the different layers of an event experience, and
the general principles of professional event coordination. The student should be able to assess the event
in terms of its economic, social, cultural and political value.
Display knowledge and manage the critical elements of site selection and development to ensure that
the creation and layout of the events meets the needs. Students are expected to be able to ensure that a
comprehensive budget is developed and documented and fundamental assumptions underpinning the
budget are recorded.
Evaluate and develop the creative and practical aspects of coordinating the event environment. Students
should be able to execute communication and marketing plans implemented and co-ordinate
roles/responsibilities allocated for vendors, volunteers and paid staff.
Develop and use performance evaluation techniques and knowledge management strategies for event
coordination. Students should be able to conduct risk management assessment and event/meeting
evaluation is ongoing and comprehensive. These outcomes will be accomplished through the following
specific areas of content.
Additionally, on successful completion of the unit, students would have displayed proficiency in the areas of :
1. Plan and design a professional event
2. Conduct and coordinate a professional event
3. Evaluate data, both quantitative and qualitative
4. Set project goals and develop strategies, to successfully achieve project outcomes
ATTENDANCE POLICY
Attendance in all class periods is important, and attendance will be taken each class. The majority of course
material will be delivered through class lectures, exercises, handouts, and textbook assignments. Due to the
seasonal virus concerns, each student must be especially diligent in keeping up with class work so that in
case they contract the flu, no more than three (3) classes will be missed. Anyone missing more than three
