Question 1. Johnson’s rule for operations scheduling (5 marks)
Maria and Mary are machine operators who perform two consecutive operations in sequence:
(1) sewing, and (2) ironing on eight jobs. The time required for performing these operations (in
hours) on machine M1 (sewing) and M2 (ironing) respectively for each job are found as below.
They would like to minimize the total time required to finish all the jobs. Apply the Johnson’s
Rule to determine an optimum sequence for them.
