Pride and Prejudice
Pride and Prejudice like any other novel it has a humorous and a romantic story in which
throughout it there’s love and laughter’s this novel also portrays on a social atmosphere of the
late eighteen and early nineteenth century in England. But the author of this book did not just
stop there. The author Jane Austen didn’t just give its readers a love story, but also incorporated
throughout different points of views in the social world. It addresses such things as the economy,
political, and feminist themes. And as it shows in the novel during the Eighteenth-century
England was quite preoccupied with status, especially concerning wealth and reputation in which
till this day we still see. This novel shows its readers how in some way society has changed but
also how there are things in which remain the same after centuries. Huge changes we see that
have happened since that time is mainly marriage. As how back then marriages where mostly set
based on financial status and class, also women didn’t have much say on what or how things
would go.
The novel centers on the older sisters of the family which are Jane and Elizabeth. Their
personalities and roles of pride and prejudice play a large part in the development of their
character throughout the novel. Elizabeth with always such a high spirit, playful, loyal, kind, and
funny, and Jane with a warm heart. Just like in today’s society at that time their social status was
very important and also their families in which they had to maintain and care for. This
complicated their marriages as they couldn’t just marry anyone but at the same time they felt

pressured to having to being married to continue with the families’ legacy. Throughout the novel
they confront many struggles in which they must go through but yet the author makes these so
believable and realistic due to the taking place such long time ago. And you can see how it is the
deference in how people would interact with each other before from today.
Scenes throughout the novel happen as Elizabeth and Jane are looking to get married. But
it isn’t as simple as they must look into economy and also make sure the other has a high social
status like theirs and the family. As they grew the sister both learned to read, play the piano, sing
and develop other talents in order to increase their desirability in the eighteenth century. Back
then marriages where mostly based of social class rather than love. The elder Bennet’s marriage
was a marriage of security. Mrs. Bennet had a small fortune as also Mr. Bennet did. They didn’t
