How to Motivate Employees in a Difficult Time
Case:
Prican is a retail company that operates more than 200 stores across the country. For a few years the company has
been struggling with uncertain market conditions, intense competition, and changing customer tastes. In order to
control costs, the company decided to change the way it does business by investing in a new information system.
The system upgrading started last year, and the rollout will be completed by the end of next year. The new IT system
is expected to affect the company’s HR planning and staffing. All staff members within the corporate office, including
a large team of administrative support staff, attended a one–week IT training program. They were informed that they
needed to integrate the new software into their daily work immediately.
The company’s objective is to eliminate most administrative support jobs after the new software is fully installed
