Preventing Global Warming
Carbon-Dioxide is introduced into the earth’s atmosphere through the intense and pro-
longed burning of fossil fuels (coal, petroleum, gas, natural gas). According to a graph from
NASA, carbon-dioxide, the main gas that contributes to global warming, has been at a steady
increase over the past 11 years. In fact, in the past 11 years there has been a dramatic increase of
29 billion parts per million. With a yearly average of about 2.6 parts per million of carbon-diox-
ide being emitted, there is surely an expectance of increase in the future. Due to the amount of
fossil fuels being burned worldwide, everyone and everything in the world is affected by the in-
creasing presence of carbon-dioxide. The rise of carbon-dioxide and heating of the earths at-
mosphere leads to rising sea lev-
els, abnormal weather patterns,
unpredictable farming conditions
and the destruction of ecosys-
tems. In order to fix the damage
that has already been inflicted,
we can increase the presence of
renewable energy, implement limitations on the burning of fossil fuels, and raise awareness of
the issue overall.
In order to combat the rise in carbon-dioxide, renewable energy resources need to be
increased worldwide. Renewable resources are reusable and not destroyed when they are har-
nessed like coal and gas. They are not only good for the climate, but are relatively inexpensive

compared to other fossil fuels. A lot of effort has been made in implementing these more today
than in the past, but little effect has been made worldwide. According to NASAs Goddard Insti-
tute for Space Studies(GISS), “The average global temperature on Earth has increased by about
0.8° Celsius (1.4° Fahrenheit) since 1880”. While, one degree temperature increase doesn't seem
substantial, its enough to increase ocean levels and the amount of abnormal weather across the
globe.
The global increase in temperature has not been a primary concern in the past. The idea of
global warming is not as significant of an issue compared to other daily life struggles. Not only is
it not as important to some people then their job, family and life in general, but it is also a costly
issue to fix. An article for the Washington Post states, “The most ambitious option, aimed at sta-
bilizing the level of greenhouse gases from fossil fuels by 2030, would require measures that
