Powerful Methods to Convey Empathy
As the writer of the 2002 novel The Secret Life of Bees, Sue Monk Kidd, once said: “Novels
attempt to render human experience; that‘s really all they are. They are meant to convey empathy
for the character.” In other words, novels are meant to convey empathy from the reader. This is
exactly what Fitzgerald, the author of The Great Gatsby, is trying to do due to the fact his main
goal throughout his novel is to convey empathy with the use of imagery and figurative language. In
