Populist Movement
April 10th, 2020
Would the populist movement work today a hundred and ten years later in today’s
world, culture and economy, and the internet. Did the populist movement ever make a
difference back in the 1890’s? First, we need to better understand the Populist Party which was
established in 1891, as a result of the Populist movement, the People’s Party reached its peak in
the 1892 presidential election. Mainly agricultural people in the party being highly critical of
capitalism, especially banks and railroads, and allied itself with the labor movement. By 1896, the
Democratic Party took up many of the People’s Party’s causes at the national level, and the party
began to fade from national prominence. The populist party was very critical in that further
down the road we see history, and we think what we could’ve been without the populist party?
So, some agree, and some disagree and whether the progressive era was good for us or not.
