Being able to carry a gun is our 2nd amendment right as Americans. Being able to conceal carry
or consealing a gun for use of protection raises eyebrows amongst anti-gun supporters. In the past
month judges have made getting a conceal carry permit much easier for law abiding citizens in
California. This has caused much controversy for our politicians as well as the Judicial branch of our
governement.
Why get a permit if it causes such a headache? There are all sorts of reasons people want to be
allowed to conceal carry. Many people want it for the sake of expressing their second amendment. If
the 2nd amendment allows us bear arms then why should the courts not allows us to conceal carry?
Others want it out of security. I used to get off work at 2 A.M. In a bad part of town.I would have felt
more comfortable knowing I had a stopping power to rely on if gang members came walking my way.
In the 2012 colorado movie theater shooting a man massacred 12 people and injured 70. Now imagine
if 10 of these people in the movie theatre were concealing guns. The tides may have swayed a different
way.
In recent news about gun control the supreme court has just overturned the conceal carry policy.
Yolo county were required to show they were faced with “credible threats of violence.” A three judge
pannel announced the overturn of the ‘good cause’ policy “requiring applicants to show a specific need
for a concealed weapons permit violated the right to bear arms granted by the Second Amendment.”
The judges rulesd this unconstitutional and that it was in violation of our 2nd amendment. This change
has helped loosen getting a conceal carry permit. Orange county has announced that it would comply
with the new ruling. Since then the amount of applicants has skyrocketed “Since the decision, the
department received more than 1,000 applications — nearly double the number of people who applied
in 2013, according to the Los Angles Times.” This statistic shows how eager the public is to express
their rights.
