Writing Assignment 6
To the future citizens reading this, the world might be a lot different than it is now in
2020. Today, the United States faces many policy issues that divide this country. These policies
include gun rights, global warming, and drug policies. Firstly, gun rights in America is a huge
topic in this time. Many people are divided on whether citizens are allowed to have single-fire
“assault” weapons. Gun activists argue it is our second constitutional right to bear arms and
have as many weapons as deemed necessary. Others believe the police and army should only
yield guns and especially “assault” rifles. In my opinion, the government should still allow guns
as it is our right written by the founding fathers. I also believe that buying a gun should have
more extensive background checks and cognitive tests to make sure the buyer is mentally
stable to have a weapon of this caliber. This would be a “win–win” as only sane people should
own the guns, and stricter safety laws allows guns out of criminals and the mentally unstable. I
believe this issue will still be relevant a hundred years from now and still a ongoing division. By
solving run rights today, it will prevent the inability for citizens to defend themselves whether
another country is invading or the government itself turns on its own people. The second issue
we have today is global warming. Global warming is extremely important topic today and
especially a hundred years from now. Our planet is slowly getting hotter and hotter from
natural gases, and from humans as well. Our world today has to start to create change and do
something about this, or we will doom our future inhabitants. Our government can start to use
less coal and natural gases, and more windmills, solar panels, and electric cars. In a hundred
years, our change now will greatly benefit the future. By decreasing the cause of global warmer,
we make the future generations a lot cooler in temperature, save crops, and prevent the
icecaps from melting. The third issue we face today is drug policies, especially marijuana. The
country is slowing getting laxer on marijuana, and many states have already legalized for either
medical and or recreational. This is important for many Americans experiencing pain, mental
