Zionism
In 1897, Zionism was established as a political organization under Theodor Herzl, and
later taken up by Chaim Weizmann. When it first came into existence, Zionism was a movement
that sought to re-establish a Jewish nation in what is now Israel. Today, Zionism umbrellas an
ideology that seeks to protect and develop such a nation. In 1999, in response to seemingly anti-
Israeli sentiment among young people throughout the world, the Zionist Freedom Alliance (ZFA)
developed as a grassroots organization. Comprised of both religious and non-religious Jewish
people, the ZFA advocates for the ethical, legal, and historical rights of the Land of Israel to the
Jewish people, including the land taken during the Six-Day War in 1967. The Zionist Freedom
Alliance sees itself as the voice of Jewish national liberation, claiming the territory from the
