Policy Implications and Recommendations
Based on the above results the researcher recommends that the backyard swine raisers in ASF
positive area in Glan, Sarangani Province specifically in Sitio Caspot, Brgy. Pangyan; Brgy. Batulaki, Brgy.
Calpidong; Brgy. Cablalan; and Sitio Calgang, Brgy. Calabanit shall have their own pig pen, foot bath, and
individual septic tank intended only for the feces of their pigs. To prevent further infection of the virus
to their pigs, and to prevent it from spreading in other parts of the locality. The local government of
Glan, Sarangani Province should conduct programs and seminars that will help educate the backyard
swine raisers regarding the biosecurity practices that they should practice. Also, they need government
assistance in regards to immunization and deworming of their pigs. The government should also
promote low-cost improvised mixed with feed such as kangkong, gabi, and ipil-ipil, in order to lessen the
cost of the animal inputs and to maximize profit. Additionally, the local government should also
establish an improved water system in Glan, Sarangani Province. Moreover, backyard swine raisers in
each of the five barangays mentioned above should create an association to improve swine industry in
the locality, also to disseminate information easily.
