Plant Physiology Presentation Summary 1
Topic: Mineral Nutrition
For my first presentation in the Plant Physiology course I presented on the topic of Mineral Nu-
trition. The main source for my presentation was the course textbook: Plant Physiology 5th
Edition, Tazi and Zeiger. The presentation was divided into four main parts, namely: Overview of
Mineral Nutrition, Essential Nutrients, Deficiencies and Plant Disorders, Treating Nutritional De–
ficiencies and lastly, Soil Roots and Microbes. “
Firstly, through my presentation I attempted to explain what Mineral Nutrition is and it was thus
defined as: the study of how plants obtain and use mineral nutrients, usually inorganic ions (in–
cluding Magnesium, Sodium, Sulfur etc) from the soil. Next, I discussed Essential Nutrients, De-
ficiencies and Plant Disorders, where in the first term that was defined was an Essential Nutri-
ent: one whose absence prevents a plant from completing its life cycle (Arnon and Stout 1939)
