Applying Psychology Lab
This psychology lab was something I had never experienced before and it was out of my
comfort zone. During our first meeting together Paige and I were both nervous. While we
started talking, it was hard to find something to keep a conversation going. As I have never
worked with a counselor, I found it hard for me to find a problem with myself to talk about with
her. These types of situations where I have to talk about only myself and only my problems, I
find very uncomfortable and hard. I am not one to talk through my problems with someone I
don’t really know. When I need help with something, or I am going through something I cannot
handle by myself I go to a close family or friend.
As Paige and I starting talking more we found a few things to talk about in order to get
to know one another. We started talking about how big my family was, who was involved in my
life and who lived with me. This got us talking about my mother, father, and brother. I have one
brother who is older, we get along for the most part but argue as much as any other siblings.
My dad works a lot and I don’t have as strong of a relationship with him as I do with my
Mother. My mother and I have a very strong relationship as if we are best friends. We tell each
other everything that is happening in and around our lives. I have now moved away to college
about two hours away from home. This has been a hard transition for both of us, going from
seeing each other every day to only being able to talk on the phone. Despite the distance
between us our relationship is still very strong, we talk about everything from boys to school
and everything in between. Sometimes it is very hard for me to be away from my mom when I

am sick or sad. At these times I always go to my mom for help and comfort. Not having her as, a
backbone as I used to has taken a lot of getting used to; but has also shaped me into a more
independent person.
In my life my animals mean a lot to me, they are like part of my family. Over the year I
have gained and lost many of pets. We started off with two horses, many chickens, and a goat.
We lived on a farm until the city bought our land from us. We had to get rid of our horses,
because we didn’t have enough land left for them. We also lost our chickens when a fox
attacked them and killed nearly all of them. The goat that we had got to be really aggressive
and there was no way that we could help him. After that I was very sad because I love animals
and they mean a lot to me. A few years went by and I started to acquire small animals that
don’t require as much space. I started my own little farm, because we still had our barn. I
