Session 9 essay
When taking a look at both New York Times photo morgues, the most powerful images
to me were the ones in the article Unpublished Black History. These images are very powerful
because each message they are trying to portray. Many of these images represent a day in
history that will never be forgotten, and these photos help us relive these memories. The two
photos that I think have the most impact and speak to me are titled catching One Last Glimpse
of Ebbets Field and lastly A Mob Boss, Gunshots and Racial Violence.
The title of the photo A Mob Boss, Gunshots and Racial Violence comes across to me as
a powerful image. This reason being because it is the awful truth about how things were not to
long ago. How black men were treated by white men and what they faced daily because of this.
In this photograph it states how a Mafia Boss was shot in then head, and the crowd around
them reacted by blaming and assaulting the negroes. The sad truth about this today is that the
Negroes are still considered more of a threat than whites by police officers and many citizens at
times. I wonder how people can be so violent to other humans because of the color of their
skin, why it took so long for the laws to change, and why the negroes are still treated differently
in some ways today.
The image titled Catching One Last Glimpse of Ebbets Field portrays a powerful message
