Philosophy
Beginning this course I already had my own views on parenting that was founded by the
way I was raised, but throughout this course I found my thoughts being altered. I was
introduced to concepts that I hadn’t thought of before, from the controversial topics like breast
feeding and screen time to the different circumstances families could be put in due to the
economy.
Generally I always thought I had a good idea of how I wanted to raise my own kids, most
of it was observing what I didn’t want to do whether I saw it from my own parents or others. I
know that from the lectures and text my views are being shaped into an authorative style. I
found this interesting because I was raised in an authoritarian style. I never liked the way it
worked and I knew I wanted different. Taking this course helped me understand where my
parents were coming from. Almost everything that was discussed matched up with my parents’
