Renaissance Thinkers
The Renaissance was a time of new growth towards art and science especially in Italy between
the 14th and 17th centuries. People were interested in new ideas that have not come across their minds,
Machiavelli, Luther, and Pascal focused their ideas around the government, society, and their belief in
God. These three philosophers thoroughly explain their own though process and how the world should
work to perish away living a joyful fulfilled life.
Inspired by Savonarola critical thinking of “relative power of good and evil forces in society,”
(Stumpf, 195), Niccolo Machiavelli published two famous books after Savonarola’s death, The
Discourses and The Prince. Although both books are entirely contrasting each other in regards to the
theme, they have common grounds focusing on how evil people are, “Machiavelli thought that it was all
too obvious that people are evil. He found corruption at every level of political and religious
