1. According to Epictetus the things that are in our control are opinion, pursuit, desire, aversion,
and our own actions. And the things that are not in our control is the body, property, reputation,
command and not our actions.
2. The point o asking about an earthenware pot is that if you want something, then you would
have to accept it in its entirety. Meaning that if you like a clay pot, then you must realize that it
can break. Therefore, if you like a person, you should realize that they will die someday because
that is the nature of things.
3.When Epictetus is talking about interpersonal relationships, he wants us to understand that
everything can break, and everyone can die. Therefore, Epictetus says that we should start small
because it is easy to accept the loss of a clay pot or cup because the object is insignificant and
fragile. However, when we lose a loved one it is much harder to deal with.
4. Epictetus says that we should no demands things as we wish but to wish that they happen as
they do happen, and you will go on well.
5. Epictetus advice for loss is to start small with visualizing that your pot or cup breaks and then
by accepting that its broken you can gradually move on to things that are more important to you.
Thus, by doing this technique you can deal with the death of your loved one.
6. The point of comparing us to actors is that, it is out of our control of what part we get to play
in life. But what is in our control is how well we play our part, we should make the best of what
we have.
7. Epictetus says about insults is that a person who taunts or hits you does not insult you but it is
your opinion about certain things as being insults does. Therefore, when someone upsets you, it
is your own opinion that insults and upsets you.
