Final Project Instructions
Please prepare a final essay or other creative work, such as a short story, website, play, film, or work of music or visual
art, which reflects your current philosophy of life.
Students will be given very free rein in deciding how to approach this project. I hope you will choose to do something
that relates to your personal interests and showcases your real abilities.
Options
OPTION ONE: TRADITIONAL ESSAY
If you choose to write a traditional essay, it should be around 2,000 words or longer. In it, you should cover the three
areas we targeted in class: metaphysics, epistemology, and value-theory. In the section on metaphysics, you will lay out
your view of reality, covering the things most important to you. In the section on epistemology, you should make clear
what you think it is we can know, and how it is we come to know it. Finally, in the section on value theory, you should
give a general overview of your ethical views and values. For all three sections, you should give arguments to support
your views
RULES FOR SUBMITTING TRADITIONAL ESSAYS:
1. DO NOT PUT YOUR NAME ANYWHERE ON YOUR SUBMISSION. This helps me avoid unintentionally biased
grading. If you put your name on your submission, you will lose points.
2. YOU MAY NOT USE OUTSIDE SOURCES – just the book and powerpoints.
3. PUT THE WORD COUNT AT THE TOP OF YOUR TEXT SUBMISSION.
