Phaeton Family
The phaeton family of carriages includes George IV, Wicker, Ladies, Bonneted,
Spider, Mail, and many more. Typicality, the Phaeton Carriages is a four-wheeled
vehicle. (Straus) The carriages are very open models with a roof to protect the
passenger from the elements. This family of carriages had a seat for two people with
a sleigh like body and also has a luggage compartment. (Felton)
These carriages had large wheels, had springs and were fast. The carriages
are made of wood and mostly painted black. Some are painted with a little yellow.
They were used as a sporty pleasure carriage. This carriage was owner driven and
there was no seat for a coachman. The carriage would be able to hold two people.
