PERSUASIVE PARAGRAPH
The right to express information, ideas, and opinions free of government restrictions is freedom
of speech. There are a few boundaries to ‘free speech’ that have been drawn over time. Words
are very powerful. One example of that is the Constitution itself. In order to help prevent any
confusion, we rely on limitations of interpretations. The way you say things out of freedom of
speech are responsible for other person’s reaction. It does not give anyone the right to
discriminate on the basis of one’s religion, ethnicity, beliefs, gender, sexuality, nationality, or
race. But, it does ‘only’ give the right to state our own opinion in such a way that it is not
intended to harm or disrespect the other. Free speech relies on honesty, peacefulness and
respect. Every person has the right to have an opinion and that itself leads to the idea of free
speech. However, a boundary must be set sometimes. For example, an opinion that promotes
the idea of something such as the Holocaust or genocide where millions of people died in
unacceptable. Free speech is limited by hate speech. People tend to say hateful thing behind
the cover of free speech, although it is not hard to self regulate, one should know when the
boundaries are being crossed and the other person has been offended. The limit is set by
society if not by the government. It is dependent on context as well. What is considered
acceptable in one place is not acceptable in another. It is hoped that we self censor ourselves
rather than censorship being forced upon us. If we have no empathy for others then it is
unlikely we will be aware of where the limits lie in any situation. For free speech to work we
