Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around
For the purpose of unity in the US, there were varieties of the civil rights movement. One
of the starkest divisions played out is the music that urged the movement forward. Ain’t
Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around is the African American Civil Right song. It was
based on an African American Gospel song. It has been performed by Joan Baez, she was
known for freedom singer during 1947. One of the most significant figures on this song
was sung in unison which encourages all the African American to join this Civil Right
movement to eliminate discrimination that they have been facing for years. Freedom songs
were used politically to grab the attention of the nation to address segregation and racism.
Baez purpose is to illustrate that music could help communicate unspeakable feelings and
the desire for radical change and inequality between different races across the nation. She
used different emotional such as
sadness, happiness, joy, and determination to portray the African American point of view
on segregation and racism. Under the influence of unequal treatment for the African
American, Baez mentioned that “I’m gonna keep on a walkin’, keep on a talkin’ Walkin’
into freedom land.” To achieve their freedom, they’re not going to stop marching until they
accomplish what they believe and their rights have been equalized. It also shows the
African American eagerness to achieve their freedom with the non-violence by singing
