Cutting Curfew Cuts Crime
Bill Clinton once stated, “[Youth curfews] help keep our children out of harm’s way. They
give parents a told to impart discipline, respect, and rules at an awkward and difficult time
in children’s lives” (Free Library 1). The issue of the topic is that many believe that teens
should be able to choose how late they are out and that it does not matter unless they are
actually doing something wrong. On the other hand, another group may argue that children
(ages under 18) should not be out wandering in public places in the late hours of the night
and early hours of the morning. However, the fact of the matter is that it is not safe for
children to be out on the streets of any city at any time of the night. Youth curfew laws
have been found to be effective as well as beneficial to parents and overall society as a
whole.
Technically speaking, imposing curfew laws impose on the 4th amendment of the United
States Constitution. The 4th amendment states, “The right of the people to be secure in
their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall
not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or
affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things
to be seized”
