Computers Changing Students
David Gelernter, a professor of computer science reveals in his essay “Unplugged” that
the human race has started to view computers almost as a god. Used in the perfect manner,
computers have the potential to help humans accomplish many great things. But unfortunately
Gelernter reveals the reality about computers when he states that “computers make our worst
educational nightmares come true” (309). He does an accurate job at showing the negative
aspects of computers in the school environment by explaining the lack of creativity, bad habits,
and emphasizing a privilege verses a right.
The use of computers in the classroom has created a creativity blockade for children.
What use to be classes with physical books, are now being replaced by tablets and computers.
