Perspective Report
The perspective that I chose to write about is Britney Spears. The reason for me choosing
Britney Spears as my perspective is because Britney suffers from Anxiety/Depression and
Bipolar disorder. Although she has not been formally diagnosed, Dr. Diana Kirschner believes
that there is no question that Britney is bipolar, because she has had manic episodes for years.
According to Dr. Diana Kirschner, who has not treated Spears but is an expert on the subject,
people who show patterns of behavior like Britney are suffering from a dual diagnosis. They
have both a substance abuse problem and a bipolar disorder or manic disorder.”
Britney was born McComb, Mississippi and was raised in Kentwood, Louisiana. Britney
developed a love for performing at the young age of seven or eight. Britney started out her career
as a cast member on Mickey Mouse Club House at the age 11. In 1995, Britney started working
on her musical career. In 1998 Britney released her first single called “Baby one more time”. At
this point, Britney’s career took off and she was selling number one hits. In 2004 Britney married
her lifelong friend Jason Alexander. This marriage lasted two days before it was annulled.
Britney then got involved with her backup dancer Kevin Federline. On September 18, 2004,
Kevin and Britney got married. Britney had her first child in September of 2005. After having
her first child, Britney was in the spot light again but it was not because she was doing well, it
was because she was seen driving her car with her infant child sitting on her lap. Britney’s
parenting skills have now become the subject of national debate. Britney was being ridiculed and
was told that she was sending a bad message to millions of fans. Britney apologized for her
mistake. In September 2006, Britney and Kevin welcomed another addition to the family with
the birth of their son Jayden. Two months later Britney filed for divorce claiming irreconcilable
differences. From this point on, Britney was struggling herself with hitting the clubs and
checking in and out of rehabilitation and battling with separating from her mother. Britney hit an
all-time low and shaved her head in the salon while paparazzi watched and took pictures. The
following month Britney spent time at a treatment center in California. In January 2008 after
Britney’s career wasn’t going as planned, Britney had another breakdown and was taken to the
hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
The two perspectives of personality that I have chosen are genetics, evolution, and
personality along with psychosocial theories. I chose genetics, evolution, and personality due to
the possible diagnosis that Britney may have of bipolar disorder. Bipolar (manic depressive)
