Personal Statement

Looking back, I have had quite the life experience; this experience has opened my
eyes to realize that there are many other options in life. I never really had the finer things in
life; my family consisted mostly of my two sisters. We never really lived in a stable
household we were constantly moving from place to place. I grew up around drugs, sexual
abuse, and domestic violence. I always wanted an escape from the life that I was given so I
found my escape from life in music. When I was younger I devoted my life to music. I played
in the middle school symphony and sang for my churches praise and worship team and
choir. I do not have a preference in music; I will listen to all music. Music is like people they
both have background and has a message to be portrayed. In addition to music, I also found
my escape outdoors. I come from a family of ranchers so being outdoors gives me a sense of
freedom and relaxation. I have always loved being out at night, away from the city lights,
gazing at the stars. It makes me feel like even in the dark that there is still a sense of light.
When I was a child, my teacher would always tell me, “Education is the key to
success.” I never took this saying into consideration; I always thought it was having the
experience and common sense that would make you go far in life. I have always excelled in
my studies, I was tested gifted and talented, and was a part of Honor Societies throughout
my elementary and middle school years. Entering into high school, I had moved to a new
state and had to start a new school, these adjustments were tough for me. My sophomore
year I dropped out of public school and continued my education online. Being a teenager, I
never really did my school work. My senior year I made a promise to myself that I would do
whatever it took to graduate with my class and that is exactly what I did. Once I graduated
high school I wanted to further my education; I enrolled the next semester at the
