I’m the type of individual that rarely visits a doctor, that being said I have visited a doctor
a few times in the past mainly for yearly check ups and I remember visiting the ER once or
twice. When I got my first full-time job, I was offered health benefits, which I declined for
financial reasons, but eventually as I hit my mid-twenties I realized that health insurance
was important and valuable to have. I remember being very intimidated by all the options
and also very puzzled by terms such as primary physician, HMO, deductibles, and
enrollment dates. As I started asking questions I found out that I’m wasn’t alone; still
today there are countless amounts of individuals confuse about their health care benefits.
Living in a country where the health system is so complex and hard to explain doesn’t help
the cause. I was determined to use my health benefits and made an appointment with a
doctor recommended by a co-worker. I remember not being too happy about the doctor’s
visit because of the way I was addressed and never went back. I can honestly say I have
visited the dentist mote than any doctors and until today I don’t have a primary physician
to provide health services.
It does not come to a surprise what my reaction was when I read this assignment and I was
made to understand what PHR’s are; I was truly amazed. Not for a second had I ever
