In chapter one I was introduced to some key Personal Finance terms. I also learned that my
biggest problem in my finances of spending too much and not saving enough is common
and that by fixing is I can reach financial success and happiness. I decided that when I
graduate and start working full time, I want to open a savings account that gets part of my
paycheck directly deposited into it by the first of June. This chapter also talked a bit about
employee benefits which was very beneficial to learn about. My job offers many benefits
such as a 5% 401k match, free dental, vision and life insurance and also low health
insurance costs. These are just a few of the things we are able to take advantage of and this
chapter helped me decide which benefits I will choose when going full time on June 1st.
On page 5 I have attached a balance sheet so that I could see where my finances stood and
where I could improve, such as savings accounts. I plan on putting $50 a month into a
savings account after graduation when I can afford to not have that money.
Chapter two focuses on smart career planning. This means focusing on your values, goals,
abilities and experiences to find an employment path that will give you the lifestyle and
work style you yearn for. It also taught me not to focus only on your salary but also on the
benefits your job provides you. It’s possible that someday I would accept a lower paying
