Personal Career Analysis: Engineer
Engineering is an incredibly vast field. The field pretty much covers everything from the
design of bridges to pace makers and ceramic works. These projects all need engineers to
help design, build and implement their respective projects. This field is very interesting to
me because you get to build and design things people may have never dreamed of.
Engineering requires a four-year bachelors degree for entry-level positions. Some higher
positions may require a graduate degree. A strong skill in mathematics and life sciences
would generally be good subjects to be proficient at for this degree. The Bureau of Labor
Statistics (2009) reports the required skills necessary for engineering include “creative,
inquisitive, analytical, and detail oriented”( 36).
The National Society of Professional Engineers is an organization that helps put people in
the different specializations of engineering together to share ideas. There website
http://www.nspe.org can help you meet and coordinate with people for project ideas as
well. One of the benefits of this organization is that it helps you find a job if you find your
self in search for a position.
