In “Partition, the day India burned” there is a lot of con ict, some foreseeable, some
that could not be stopped. Many say that India would have divided no ma’er what, but with
the right leaders and enough support through this time period I believe this is not true.
Although the religious con ict at this time was inevitable, India survived under British rule and
the East India Trading Company because they had a more strongly established government
during these times that made the Hindus and Muslims equal under each of their rules. This is
because during these rules the government was less worried about who was a higher class and
more worried about how they could make more money from India during this time period. I
believe that if Britain decided to have a stronger presence in India during the transition of
