The issue of overpopulation that eventually leads to famine in the world could be solved
technically by improving the agricultural sector. An intensive and mass production of
agricultural commodities could prevent a potential deficit of food. However, professor of
biology Garrett Hardin (1968) disagrees when he writes, “They think that farming the seas or
developing new strains of wheat will solve the problem – technologically. I try to show here
that the solution they seek cannot be found. The population problem cannot be solved in a
technical way” (p. 1243). In making this comment, Hardin shows that he does not support the
suggested idea of technical solution of the global problem, but completely rejects it.
