Parallel of Herland
This was an extremely interesting read especially from someone being a woman in our current
modern world. The women of Herland saw no use of men, they were able to function perfectly
without them. Specifically, the women of Herland’s view of men is much different to the
societal view of women today, their view of men was only “Fatherhood,” they had no view of
men besides that. Evidence of this is near the end of the book, stated specifically as, “They had
their long, wide, deep, rich experience of Motherhood, and their only perception of the value of a
male creature as such was for Fatherhood” (Pg. 106). A comparison of this in our current society,
would be the stereotype of women needing to be polite, accommodating, and nurturing. This
would be parallel because women in Herland see men only as a father, humans who nurture
