Animism and the Alphabet, in the Spell of the Sensuous, Abram talks about how humans
have been interacting with the environment, and finding reasons as to why people are interacting
with the environment, in certain ways. One main point that Abram opens up with is how western
civilization has very little connection with the environment, except to conquer the land and make
it their own.
Abram points out that there are long established indigenous cultures that work with the
land, and treat their areas with respect and understanding. Compared to western culture, the more
