Leadership vs Management
I believe that there are many reasons as to why being a leader can differ from being a manager
in the role as project manager. However, I do believe that a good project manager encompasses traits
from both roles. I think that in order to be a leader, one must have traits such as inspiration,
communication, ability to challenge, and vision. In order to be a good manager, I believe that one must
possess traits such as being able to execute a vision, ability to direct, and people focused.
Being able to inspire your team is an imperative trait to possess in a leader. This is done by
making sure that the team understands their role in the bigger picture as opposed to each individual
role. Getting a sense of what they are doing and why is important in order to reach the main goal of the
project. It is also extremely important for a leader to be able to communicate with all levels of the
project. Good communication ensures that all levels are on the same page with each other for the given
tasks that everyone should be at. Without a good sense of communication, things could be hectic and
team members could be working on tasks too long or not long enough, and management could be
frustrated with the lack of communication at certain checkpoints. It is important for an effective leader
