1. Explain why you would like to go on your first trip choice.
I would like to go on the trip choice of Childhood Obesity because obesity in America is at an all-time
high and childhood obesity is growing at a rapid rate. I myself became overweight at a young age and I
know from personal experience that weight problems are di)cult to overcome. Obesity leads to
diabetes, heart disease, asthma and many other health risks. Obesity can also a+ect children mentally
with issues such as low self-esteem and negative body images. I believe that education at a young age
will help reduce the risks of obesity. Therefore, I would like to have a role in combating obesity in
children and focusing on nutrition and exercise in the youth to help reduce the risks of childhood obesity.
I would like to become a role model to children of all weight and to myself to begin a process of healthy
living and eating that can and will save their lives and eventually others.
2. How do you feel participating in Panther Breakaway would help further your
academic/personal/career goals?
Panther Breakaway is a great organization dedicated to giving back and be2ering the community. By
participating in the organization, not only will I help the community, but I will be2er myself. Personally
the organization will give me personal satisfaction and will help me expand my network in the
community and boost my social skills. While expanding my social network, I will strengthen my
communication and interpersonal skills as well as learning to be2er adapt to di+erent people, situations,
and cultures. I will also have the opportunity to gain new experiences. Because Panther Breakaway is
involved with many di+erent organizations, I can be hands on in more than one organization, instead of
being limited to one cause. Academically, I believe that volunteering can help me learn more about
myself which will help me to explore careers and decide my career path. Students who volunteer stand
out as well rounded and employers know that you are well balanced and enjoy helping others. Those
a2ributes are strong and are needed in the workplace. Once again, the connections I make through
change.
