Should businesses be required to provide paid leave for full-time employees during the birth
of a child or sick family member?
I would say yes but, depending on the business. What I mean by that is that not every
business has that budget to provide paid leave for full-time employees during the birth of a child
or a sick family member. there are many factor that makes this question possible and impossible.
However, I will be pointing more to the possibility of this question being possible. As I mentioned
before at the beginning of the paragraph the budget of the business matters. For instance, a
company like apple that reached the trillion dollar should have this without no problem. Now, a
business in which there is less than 50 employees that does not have that budget might have it or
might not have it at all. Those that might have it should have more limitations. For example, they
can provide less days or less money.
Moreover, companies as well as employees should understand each other in terms of
agreements. When it comes to sick paid leave there should not be exception due to the fact that it
is unexpected and nobody wants to be sick and when we refer to the birth of a child there should
be some limitations because it is a choice. Even though, being pregnant is a choice we have to
procreate to be able to have our family and jobs should not be the reason why not to procreate.
That question on top has to become a law everywhere. A good example is my home country (The
Dominican Republic) in which there is a law that protect women that are pregnant and it stablish
that “the woman cannot be fired from her job because she is pregnant. In addition, after three
months of childbirth, the woman cannot be fired either.
To sum it all up, this is a question that in my opinion should be taken into consideration
