Overbearing Parents
Having overbearing parents can often lead to failure in a child’s life, without the parent
not intentionally knowing. After reading the short story “Two Kinds” written by Amy Tan, you
can tell that Jing- Mei the young daughter takes constant prodigies from her mother, while Jing-
Mei is determined to disobey everyone her mother tries to make her do. See her mother
moved to America in 1949 after losing everything in China. Jing- Mei mother lost her father and
mother, her childhood home, her husband and two baby twin girls. So after moving to
American and starting a new life, her mother viewed her daughter as a prodigy and made sure
that she knew “you could be anything you wanted to be in America” (Kirszner & Mandell 2013).
Kali Holloway explains that putting too much pressure on children while they are young
can result to them failing academically (Kali Holloway2015). As written in the short story Two
