The Project Instructions:
Pick one company, not one you work for, and make a list of five organizational functions
that they have currently that should be considered for outsourcing. You will identify one
function that would be ideal to outsource and provide clear rationale as to why it was
chosen, and the advantages for the organization in outsourcing that function. Be sure to
also identify any drawbacks. Using that one for outsourcing, establish a business case
for the Human Resources Director that would convince her that this makes good
business sense from a number of perspectives.
Do a Web search to compile a list of 4 major outsourcing firms. Two of the firms you
identify must have a physical location within Windsor/Essex. It might also be wise to
provide at least one from elsewhere in the province.
From your list of four (4) outsourcing firms, identify two firms to examine and describe
which HR functions they are managing (and it should include the five you have
considered for outsourcing above). Then also ensure you do identify three (3) potential
benefits of the two chosen firms being awarded this outsourcing work. In addition,
identify two (2) risks or limitations if they are chosen for outsourcing.
Then, pick one of those companies and create a business case for retaining them to
manage the one function you identified that would be ideal for outsourcing. What are
the advantages and disadvantages of the decision you have made and why? Ensure
you are considering the Project Model and Marking Guidelines below in formulating your
project response.

For this term project, I have chosen Abrams Towing Inc of Windsor, Ontario. I
became aware of Abrams Towing while watching Heavy Rescue 401 on the Discovery
Channel. Shortly after seeing the company on TV, I met a friend who was working for
the company. After a few months, I assisted my friend by providing representation for
them in front of the Ontario Labour Relations Board. During the claim, I came to learn a
lot about both Abrams Towing Inc and the way the Towing Industry operates. I have
also had the opportunity to read some of the employment reviews from previous
employees at Glassdoor.ca, Indeed.ca, and Linkedin.com. From those reviews, I have
determined areas for improvement or opportunity for the business. I have also
determined some business functions which, by being outsourced could improve the
way(s) in which the business operates and increase employee satisfaction and
retention.
