Organizational behaviour also referred ‘OB,’ is defined by the Organizational Behaviour 15th edition text
as a field of study that investigates the impact of individuals, groups, and structure have on behaviour
with in organizations, for purpose of knowledge toward improving an organization’s effectiveness.
(Stephen P. Robbins, 2005) OB helps people attain the competencies needed to become effective
employees, team players/ leaders, or managers.
The study of Organizational Behaviour applies the systematic study of behaviour approach to make
reasonably accurate predictions. This approach involves looking at relationships, attributing causes and
effects, and basing conclusions on scientific evidence, which justify why the study uses a scientific
method. Generally, the study replaces perception with systematic study.
When we pass judgement we contribute to the attribution theory, which is used to determine if the
behaviour of persons we are assessing is due to internal and external factors. The factor that stood out
the most to me was distinctiveness because as a person who cares about personal image, I carry myself
different in different environments. When I’m at work, I am dedicated to being efficient and when I am
at school, I try to be attentive and willing to retain knowledge. Also, when it is not school or work time, I
have fun, while still maintaining a positive image.
In addition, from the five weeks of lessons, the concept of Distortion caught my interest the most. Self-
serving bias stood out to me because as humans we tend to attribute our success to internal influence
before awarding all external factors that made it possible. Unconsciously, I tend to think of all my efforts
that I put in school and how it contributed to getting my Associate’s before I realize that my mother and
others played a great role in making it all possible.
