Chapter 9: Communicating Effectively with Others
An organization comprises of different people with different perceptions and cultures.
These people come to work together in an organization, which prompts the need for
effective communication. At Tailgate Company, David Easley aims at attaining high
responsive rates when communicating to the employees and the clients. Effective
communication can only be undertaken when there is clarity. Mostly, communication
involves the sender, the message, the media used to send the message, and the receiver.
One might consider communication a mechanical process, but the process runs deeper than
a mechanical system. Establishment of a clear and constructive communication helps
people communicate on task needs and live satisfying lives (Ch.9 271).
A leader should understand the barriers to communication within an organization. A
culture of nave and active listening can improve work relation. Nave listeners incorporate
individuals, who listen with an intention to learn something as opposed to defensive
listening. Equally, active listening involves acknowledging the message and acting on the
message according to the needs (Ch.9 272).
As the leader, David Easley needs to incorporate excellent communication skills to ensure
effective leadership. When sharing ideas and knowledge, the leader should transmit some
form of urgency and fuel enthusiasm. Leaders’ messages need to motivate and influence
others to act on these messages. Most senders have a specific intention to the receiver of
the message. However, there are common distractions, either social or natural, which alter
