Individual Antecedents: Organisational politics refers to the unstructured, unregulated, and often
behind-the-scenes attempt to promote concepts, impact an organisation, acquire power, or
achieve other specified aims. For centuries, politics seems to have been an element of mankind
existence. As per Aristotle, politics is the outcome of a plethora of competing objectives which
must be settled in certain manner. When inherently competing objectives make “logical”
judgement insufficient, socio-political behaviours and persuasion tactics develop.
Organisational antecedents: Resources shortage generates politics, according to organisational
antecedents. Whenever assets, including such cash rewards or advancements, are restricted,
individuals consider an organisation to become more politicized. Any uncertainty may be traced
back to the policy of a bigger organisation. For example, role ambiguity allows employees to
negotiate and change their duties. This freedom has the potential to transform into a political
process. According to studies, people see an organisation as more political when they are unsure
about their job responsibilities.
Organizational politics is not only bad but it also brings positive changes to the organization. It
brings some good changes as well and it also appeals to increase the pay rate to the worker,
introduce i=new system and so on.
Employees have mixed responses to organizational politics. Some employees respond to it as well
as it brings changes in the organization and it can introduce the new system and new rules for
employees’ wellbeing. Similarly, it is negative as well it can bring monopoly in an organization and
it can affect the organization’s reputation as well. Sometimes it can appoint the wrong person and
can bring rules which affect the employee’s s organization.
