The article starts off by explaining the difference between a travel plan, which is the type
of plan most minds think of when they hear the word plan, and a business development plan,
which is the type of plan that any manager would think of. Either plan begins with a specific
starting point, a specific ending point, and all the precise steps in-between. The problem with
these two different mindsets is they don’t make room for unpredictable environments. Helmuth
Karl Bernhard Graf von Moltke came up with strategic planning, where you plan for a serious of
options and outcomes, rather than a set and stone plan. In business planning, it is important to
plan for a fluid, unpredictable environment and understand the different between planning and a
